Web Design Elements - Web Grid

Essentially all web design elements are done in blocks (rectangles). This process is typically done in tables or using cascading style sheets (CSS) to layout the design elements. These web design elements are also referred to as the web grid.

The vast majority of sites these days are positioned centrally within the browser window. Relatively few are full-screen (liquid) or left-aligned / fixed-width, compared to a few years ago.

We have chosen to to break down the web grid into 3 design types:

Can you have more absolutely, but why?

grid 1 grid 2 grid 2

With this graphic "grid layout" you can determine how the major blocks of type and graphics will regularly occur in your pages and set the placement and style guidelines for major screen titles, subtitles, and navigation links or buttons. Most websites today are typically single column, with the 2 column being the most common, and the 3 column as the mainstream maximum.

Always keep in mind that if a web page is hard to read, or the information is hard to find, chances are your reader will go elsewhere instead!
